Early diagnosis of developmental difficulties and its adequate treatment and detection benefits the affected children, their families and the society. Given these benefits, regular developmental assessment is recommended during well care visits, through the use of standardized instruments. In the setting of a teaching-assisting partnership in health problems, at a Primary Care Health Center of the Northern Area of the Metropolitan Region of Chile, a multidisciplinary team was constituted and has developed a series of research projects in the area of child and language development. In this article, we present the principal observations, analysis and conclusions obtained, related to the strategies currently used for developmental difficulties evaluation and general recommendations are formulated.
