In the past years there has been an increase in premature and juvenile sexual activity, producing a higher amount of adolescent pregnancy, which is currently considered a severe sociomedical problem. Its prevalence varies at national and worldwide levels. Within the described risk factors, the most relevant are the individual ones, which are related to adverse gyneco-obstetrical and psychosocial results. Within the former we find fetal growth retardations, anemia, urinary tract infections , premature birth, and birth complications. The main psychosocial consequences found were school desertions, dysfunctional families, and economic problems. This actual situation has driven to create different kinds of sexual education programs, with common goals in order to deal with the problem.

Amongst these are the state programs for example, which include some that try to assure “safe sex” and others that are based on sexual abstinence.

Keywords: Adolescent pregnancy, Consequences, Sex education programs.
